The Alaska State Trooper/Fish and Wildlife
Protection have a detachment located at the Meadowood Mall next to
the Napa store on the corner of the Parks Highway and Big Lake Road . Their
hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Sgt. Mark Agnew is
the officer in command.

The Big Lake Volunteer Fire Department is located in the Bud Beech Public Safety Building, with a second station located at the Jack Helms Public Safety Building in the Horseshoe Lake area. The 24 member trained volunteer fire department has two engines, one tanker & one tanker-pump, a water supply truck and two support vehicles.
The Big Lake Fire Service Area has an Insurance Services Office rating of 8 for
residential properties. Areas outside the fire service area have a rating of 10, which
means unprotected. Commercial properties are rated on an individual basis.

The Alaska State Forestry Department located on South Big Lake Road is responsible for forest fire reports & issues area burn permits. Phone number: (907) 892-7665
Emergency Medical Service is provided by volunteer emergency medical technicians with an ambulance stationed at the Bud Beech Public Safety Building. There are qualified divers and an emergency boat stationed on Big Lake to respond to water related emergencies. The nearest hospital is Valley Hospital in Palmer. Alaska Regional Hospital and Providence Hospital, both with helicopter medivac facilities, are located in Anchorage, approximately 20 air miles from Big Lake.
Health services are not available in Big Lake, except for a part time Dentist. It is necessary to travel to Wasilla, Palmer or Anchorage for non emergency medical services.
