2002 KLONDIKE 300
SLED DOG RACE
January 19-20, 2002
Note: Start and finish will be the Call of the
Wild
The 10th annual running of the Klondike 300
Sled Dog Race conducted by Aurora International, Inc. will be held January
19-20, 2002. The mandatory veterinary
exam
(or presentation of written proof of
examination of each dog), food drop, and position drawing will be held on
Thursday, January 17, 2002. Maximum of 8 dogs to Start the
Race from the Call of the Wild to the Tug Bar;
Restart after 2-hour mandatory layover; no
dogs may be added to the team after Restart;
maximum of 16 dogs, minimum of 7 dogs at Restart; no less than 5 dogs in
harness at Finish. Entry applications
will be accepted as of November 1, 2001.
Entry must be notarized prior to submission. Early entry fee is $350 plus $30 membership
through December 31, 2001. Early entry
fee ($350) is refundable through December 31, 2001, upon receipt in writing
(mail, fax or hand-delivered to Aurora Intl.) of request of refund. Late entry fee is $450 plus $30 membership
(cash, money order or credit card only), and must be paid before or during
veterinary exam January 17. Banquet
will held Wednesday, January 23, 2002, at the Hangar Lounge, Big Lake. Purse will be $200 of entry fees plus
$10,000 of donations and funds raised by Aurora Intl. 2000 purse was $11,200.00.
The race was not run in 2001. No
major changes to the race route and rules from the 2000 Race. Race route will be Call of the Wild, Tug
Bar, Skwentna, Forks Roadhouse, Yentna, Call of the Wild. Mandatory 6-hour layovers will be at
Skwentna, Forks Roadhouse, and Yentna.
2000 Klondike 300
winners were: 1st—Charlie Boulding;
2nd—Aaron Burmeister;
3rd – Russell Lane; 4th— John Dixon.
